The Allison Inn & Spa – Hard Hat Tour - June 22, 2009

Filed under: Accommodations, Event & Meeting Sites, Portland Event Planning, wine tours — Bravo Publications @ 3:22 pm

The VIPlanners had the best trip ever! The event started out at the Bravo offices. Each planner was greeted with a hand calligraphy name badge by Alesia Zorn Calligraphy (so, we all knew who everyone was). They boarded the luxury VIP PDX bus and what a bus it is. Large comfy leather seats with the best bathroom you have ever seen. Graham, owner and host served us well and provided some great music! They took us to the Vista Hills Winery, where Stephanie served us 5 different varieties of fabulous Oregon wines. From there, VIP PDX took us to the Allison Inn & Spa, where Joanne Austin and Lori greeted us. We sat sat down to a beautiful table made possible by Barclay Event Rental menu cards by Uncommon Invites and flowers designed by Leah Clouser of Sweet Nellie’s. Joanne shared her vision with us and how she made her dream possible. Owners Jim and Vicky of Gourmet Productions provided the most amazing lunch! After lunch Lori took us on a hard hat tour of The Allison. This place is amazing! So much thought and details has gone into the planning. If you are looking to plan an event in Mid-Willamette wine country, this is definitely the place. Their grand opening is set for September 2009.

Portland Catering Company – Amazing Food! - June 19, 2009

Filed under: Catering — Bravo Publications @ 4:01 pm

Portland Catering Company did a fabulous job on catering my son’s graduation party. My son is a vegan and yet, we wanted to offer other selections that would please the wide-range of guests that were coming for an open-house celebration. Eric did a great job serving poached salmon, with roasted vegetables and his favorite handmade mozzarella, tomatoes and basil. One of the crowd pleasers were the chicken skewers with his special peanut sauce with a kick of jalapeno. Everything was prepared fresh and the fruit was even cut right before the event which is the attention to detail that I appreciated. My personal favorite was goat cheese and wild mushroom quesadillas with madeira sauce. One challenge was selecting and presenting the food so that it could sit out during the duration of the open house. Eric prepared the dishes in two servings so that some could remain refrigerated. Rave reviews from all the guests for Portland Catering Company!

Brand Launch Event - June 12, 2009

A Large but Sustainable Brand Launch Event for Microsoft

Hollywood Lighting Services recently completed a large low-energy lighting set up for Microsoft, Inc, for a brand rollout event. “Bing,” Microsoft’s new search engine that has been launched to compete with popular sites such as Google and Yahoo, has a distinctive logo that was presented in a very-large format.

“It needed to be extremely bright, but draw as little power as possible. It also had to be animated, said Dwayne Thomas, president of Hollywood Lighting Services. “Traditional projectors or LED video would not have done the trick and would have
been prohibitively expensive, so we decided to do an end around to get to the
solution.”

The LED logo array was over 60′ wide when finished, and the entire job was installed and ready to show in less than a day.

As seen in the event photograph, the beam of light from the logo was significantly brighter than that of the nearby pod of (20) 7,000w searchlights in the top right-hand side of the photo. However, the logo consumed on average less than 10% of the energy of the searchlight beam, changed color and played back video, and, of course, had the added bonus of actually spelling something!

The logo was filmed via Helicopter for future advertising use.

Hollywood Lighting Services is proud to be the oldest and largest event lighting production, rental, and sales operation in the Northwest, and operates as a sustainable business both in internal practices as well as through innovative low- energy and high-efficiency product offerings. In June 2008, HLS was certified by Recycleworks as a green company.
